Twenty Eighteen
Soon to be
ushered out
Old news now
hazy in remembrance
Until I
consult my calendar
Cataracts
removed brought clarity
Bakersfield’s
triumphant Women’s March
And later that
spring, the potent Anita Hill
Learning,
driving, charging Beverly,
My new Chevy
Bolt all-electric car
Explored new
landscapes
Bisbee and
Old Santa Fe
Jazz concert,
book festival,
New friends,
long-time-no-see
And
new-found cousins
Daughter’s
ministerial ordination
Coos Bay
summer in our community
living,
teaching, creating
Reconnected in Seattle
On Anderson
Island
In Corvallis
All was good until
my sister’s unexpected
my sister’s unexpected
Cancer
diagnosis
But even
that had a silver lining
Loved ones brought together
Bonds created
and strengthened
Now thankfully she’s recovered
“I feel like
my old self.”
We faced and
embraced challenges
Expressed
gratitude
Moved
forward
And
prevailed
Through 2018
Now ready
for whatever
2019 begets
